1. Find What Brings You Joy
Someone very close to my heart once told me, “Happiness is excellent, but you shouldn’t strive to be happy. You should strive to be joyful! Your only happy when things are happening in your life. but joy lasts forever.” So let’s start by answering the question, what brings you joy? It could be anything! Golf, going to the beach, or drinking tea with your friend at one of the numerous cat cafes people rave about! Your source of joy doesn’t have to make you money or it certainly can! It can be one small thing or tons of different uplifting activities. All your focus should be when trying to find joy is focusing on anything that brings you pure satisfaction!
My source of joy comes from several things, one of the leading avenues being this exact things! Writing! If I could spend every waking moment reading or writing, trust me, I couldn’t leave my room for months! Oh, to spend every waking moment reading my favorite book would be wonderful, but I’d never get anything done! Other sources, are spending times with my family, photography, crafting with my siblings, and thrift shopping for things I simply don’ t need! With there being, of course, a desire to be able to make money from my numerous joys in life but not allowing that to change how creating makes me feel. Creating the old into new or remaking the world in my eyes brings me the upmost, overflowing sense of peace and joy. Once you find that I wish the same for you!
2. Self care
Self-care is important because it is indeed self-love. There is nothing in the world like giving back to yourself and being kind to the body that your soul resides in. Sometimes if I have had a bad day or in the midst of a hectic time in my life, I will take a moment to reconnect with myself. Reconnecting allows the ability to centers oneself when the world around you is moving too quickly. I believe the ability to center oneself is key to understand no matter how fast things are moving you never loose sight in the important things. Whether it’s a warm bubble bath with yummy scented candles or a night-in binge-watching a new series on Netflix whilst nursing a pint of ice cream. There are no guidelines when it comes to reconnecting with yourself! Don’t let others definition of the “proper” way to ensure the best self care hinder what makes you comfortable and relaxed.

3. Educate Yourself
There is no harm in gaining knowledge about issues, ideas, or views that differ from you everyday life. I don’t believe that it is always necessary to walk in someone else’s shoes to learn about them. In a world running on technology there is no excuse not to discover new perspectives. Whether you read, listen to audio books, attend seminars, webinars, or enjoying a thought-provoking conversation with everyday people. Any of these options allows your mind with interesting things to ponder. It is always good to actively engage yourself in different viewpoints!
4. Being Your Best Version
Everyone preaches on a daily bases to be who you are, but no one warns you about the cost of doing so. I will be discussing this more in future articles, but to touch briefly on the subject; here is an inspiring word from my 91 year old great grandfather. He is the most charmingly-blunt person I’ve ever met! After a conversation about his life and his take on how to be yourself in the face of adversity, he mentioned this slice of advice. “Once you stop giving a damn what other people think, you’ll be okay.” To be honest, I was taken aback when he said this! I’d heard this said by numerous people, but hearing this from someone who didn’t grow up black in America and who stands up to racism with a kind heart. Someone who has done so many great things in his life, and yet doesn’t shy away from discussing the unpleasant burdens of life.
After letting his words sit and soak in for a while, I made the uplifting transition and decided not to give a damn! This transition is an on-going and unpredictably interesting journey I am on and there are times when I fall backwards into old habits. But falling backward is only cast in vain when you don’t or won’t allow yourself to gain strength from it and get back up. Remember, you don’t need to prove anything to anyone unless you give them the right to make you believe you do.
5. Move Forward and Teach Others
By teaching others and sharing what you’ve learned on your soul’s journey, you can inspire others to discover themselves. Always keep in mind that no one is perfect, and though it is always rewarding to build and learn together! People were never meant to do life alone, so get out and make the community you’ve always wanted!
“Remember to stay positive, be kind, and love yourself.”
